When asking someone to spend a significant amount of money for a product, you want to be sure that it is of the highest quality possible. For Henry, this meant employing an engraver of the highest skill level. Mr. Henry’s engraver of choice was Samuel James Hoggson. Born in November 1828 in Glasgow, Scotland, he came to New Haven, Connecticut, as a young man and married Lucy MacLean. Their son, William John, was born in 1861 and continued his father’s engraving trade in nearby Bridgeport.
