A bullpup handgun? Technically that’s what the new Bond Arms BullPup9 pistol is (though the term is usually applied to rifles) allowing for an extremely snubby automatic without sacrificing barrel length, making for a very compact self-defense carry gun.

On a bullpup rifle, the action, which would normally be in front of the trigger, is moved far back into the buttstock, allowing for all that space to be used for barrel length without making the gun any longer.

As you can see from the photo below, the ejection port and action on this unique-looking pistol have been moved from above or slightly in front of the trigger farther back, allowing for a 3.35 inch barrel that is pretty much flush with the front of the trigger guard.

The overall length of the pistol is just 5.1 inches, making for a very compact overall package with 7+1 capacity in 9mm.

Bond Arms is mostly known for making single-action double-barrel derringer pistols. Two years ago, the gun maker bought Boberg Arms, which started making a similar pistol, the XR9-S, which began shipping toward the end of 2011 and continued through 2016 until the company was purchased.

The new owners spruced up the pistol with a few improvements and has now released it as the BullPup9, the only bullpup pistol on the market at the moment, according to
