A new gun control group aimed at veterans has been formed by Gen. David Petraeus and retired astronaut Mark Kelly, according to this story from The Hill.

It’s called the Veterans Coalition for Common Sense and has a mission to “strengthen gun background check laws and help prevent veterans for committing suicide.”

The Department of Veteran Affairs says about 22 veterans commit suicide every day in the U.S., according to the story.

“As service members, each of us swore an oath to protect our Constitution and the homeland,” Kelly said. “Now we’re asking our leaders to do more to protect our rights and save lives.” Kelly previously formed an anti-gun group with his wife, former Rep. Gabby Giffords.

The story says a number of other generals and admirals will join the group, including Michael Hayden, a man who shares the title of “former CIA Director” with Petraeus.

Patreaus resigned as CIA director after a scandal broke regarding an extramarital affair he had with a military officer, which began while he was still a general, and was uncovered by the FBI.
