A few years ago, Mossberg introduced its FLEX system and compatible shotguns and parts. The system includes innovative connectors that allow for stocks and fore-ends to be changed out quickly without tools for different configurations of FLEX-equipped shotguns.
For instance, a hunter could quickly convert a turkey gun to a home defense gun, eliminating the need to own two shotguns. The system also offers easily interchangeable buttpads for a customized length of pull.
Now, Mossberg has announced its selling a kit that will allow existing, non-FLEX Mossberg 500 and Maverick 88 shotguns to use FLEX accessories.
The kits are basically a set of adapters adapters. One attaches to the rear of the receiver and allows FLEX stocks to be attached using the same connectors as regular FLEX shotguns.
Another adapter allows the use of FLEX quick-change fore-ends.
The kits will be sold in three configurations: one that includes both the stock and fore-end adapters; a stock adapter that comes with the FLEX Pistol Grip with sling swivel; and a stock adapter kit that includes the tool-less adapter only.
The kits will work with any 12- and 20-gauge Mossberg 500, 590, or 590A1 shotguns or Maverick 88 shotguns.
“With 16 FLEX accessory components and Mossberg’s extensive line of 500 accessory barrels (compatible with Maverick 88 shotguns as well), the options for your pump-action shotgun are endless,” Mossberg said in a press release.
“FLEX System accessories include three recoil pads (3/4-inch, 1 ¼-inches and 1 ½-inches thick); four synthetic forends (three standard and one tactical tri-rail); and nine stock options. Choose from standard full-length stocks with 12 ½, 13 ½ and 14 ¼-inch LOPs; pistol grip; six-position adjustable tactical stock; and four-position adjustable, dual-comb hunting stock. Forends and stocks feature black matte, Mossy Oak Break-Up® Infinity or Realtree MAX-4® finishes.”
