Savage Drops Line of New Model 110 Rifles with AccuFit System

Savage Arms is refreshing 13 select models of their time-tested Model 110 rifles for 2018 featuring the company's all new user-adjustable AccuFit system. First introduced in 1958 the 110 has served hunters and target shooters as a budget friendly, accurate and durable bolt action rifle. In fact, it is the oldest continuously manufactured rifle in North America.

While the iconic 110 has stood the test of time, the demands of today’s hunter and target shooters for fully and easily adjustable rifles have led Savage to develop the AccuFit system, bringing customization and personalization to any rifle shooter without the big price bump that fully adjustable stocks usually add.

Two of the issues that were addressed with the AccuFit system are comb height (comb is simply the high point on the stock where your cheek rests when you align your eye with a scope), and length of pull (LOP is the distance from the center of the buttstock to the center of the trigger face or if measured on the shooter it is from the inner elbow to the middle of the trigger finger).

The AccuFit system includes five comb risers that are adjustable in 1/8-inch increments allowing the shooter to set the perfect height and gain a proper cheek position and sight alignment in any shooting position.

The system also comes with four stock inserts that are adjustable in 1/4-inch increments and gives the shooter the ability to personalize length-of-pull and adjust to any body size and type. The stock inserts also offer adaptability for warm weather clothing as well as cold weather apparel, since you need a shorter stock paired with thick clothing and coats for the same fit.

The AccuFit system can be adjusted using a Phillips head screwdriver and included hardware, making it easy for any gun owner. That also means you can go back and forth to find the right fit with minimal hassle. No matter what adjustments you make, the Model 110 was designed to maintain proper balance, even at the highest riser setting and the longest stock extension.

The AccuFit was also built to be snag free without any bulky knobs that might get caught up on brush or gear. The AccuFit also accommodates physical changes, making it perfect for young shooters who need a rifle that can grow with them.

The ultimate goal of any shooter is consistent accuracy and while the AccuFit system doesn’t mechanically make your Model 110 shoot more accurately, but it will improve the overall fit. In turn, proper fit and form will improve accuracy and consistency.

Another feature of the system that might be overlooked is the adaptability that allows the rifle to be set up for multiple shooters or a friend or family member who may borrow the gun for a hunt. It could also increase the resale value of the rifle as the gun can be customized to fit a new owner on the second-hand market.

In addition to the AccuFit system, the new model 110s will still come standard with the patented user-adjustable AccuTrigger developed by Savage arms in 2002. The AccuTrigger offers a crisp, creep-free trigger-pull and also adds another layer of safety by preventing the firearm from discharging if dropped.

The AccuStock will come standard on all Model 110 Specialty and Big Game Series rifles and consists of a rigid chassis imbedded in the stock that engages the action three-dimensionally along its entire length, ensuring accuracy and consistency.

Savage will also incorporate performance technologies on the new Model 110s that they have used for decades, including a floating bolt head, zero-tolerance headspacing and hand-straightened, button-rifled barrels.

As the hunting and shooting sports continue to grow, it’s nice to see companies like Savage Arms move away from the one size fits all mentality and offer customized performance upgrades on their rifles. Performance upgrades and a new modern look combined with improved ergonomics will make the new 110s a favorite at ranges and in hunting camps everywhere.

The Big Game and Specialty Series rifles that have undergone the AccuFit makeover include: 110 Hunter, 110 Storm, 110 Varmint, 110 Tactical, 110 Long Range Hunter, 110 Predator, 110 Scout, 110 Bear Hunter and the 110 Wolverine.

The Trophy Series, which includes the 110 Engage Hunter XP, 110 Hog Hunter, 110 Brush Hunter, and 110 Lightweight Storm also received and update and now feature a modern, ergonomically enhanced stock with adjustable length-of-pull.

Considering its proven track record, Savage didn’t take the task of tweaking the popular platform lightly. The company took a hard look at every facet of the Model 110.

As a result, the project blossomed from a simple cosmetic facelift to a full-fledged redesign that saw teams of engineers and designers engaged in a two-pronged pursuit of the next plateau in fit, form and function.
