Real Avid is well-known for their gun maintenance tools and kits. Their catalog seems to offer just about anything and everything you need to get the job done. Choose from rubber, brass, steel, or nylon heads, depending on what the job calls for.

Available in sizes from .22 to 10 gauge, there’s one for your favorite firearm. Breda B12i Rapid Reload
This new reloading system for the Breda B12i semi-auto shotgun is a game-changer for 3-Gunners, removing an entire step from the reload process. When the semi-auto shotgun’s bolt is locked back after firing the last shell in the magazine, all you have to do is put a new shell in the mag tube. The action will automatically close and chamber the shell, leaving you free to continue loading the tube, without ever having to touch the bolt release. MSRP: NA —Joseph Albanese
Champion Vanquish Series Hearing Protection
Aside from safe gun handling, the most important thing you’ll do at the range is protect your hearing. The Vanquish series of electronic ear pro from Champion offers a great way to do just that. Building on the initial series success, they’ve now introduced the Vanquish Pro and Pro Elite.
Each muff was acoustically modeled on gunshot reports to achieve the optimal balance of all day comfort and noise reduction. They feature Safe Level Sound Compression Technology with a refresh time of less than 1 millisecond and two HD speakers to ensure everything you hear is crystal clear.
The new Pro model offers 5x amplification (compared to previous 3x), 150-hour runtime, a 3-hour automatic shut-off feature, runs on AAA batteries, and is Bluetooth-enabled.
As the name implies, the Pro Elite model is even nicer than the Pro model, which is great in its own right.
The Pro Elite offers 6x amplification, 12-hour runtime with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, active noise cancellation, a 3-hour automatic shut-off feature, and is Bluetooth-enabled.
Each of the 3 models in the Vanquish line have an NRR of at least 22. The initial model is obviously already on shelves, with the Pro and Pro Elite shipping soon.
MSRP starts at $43.45 and goes up. Prices will be determined as the products launch. For more info, visit www.championtarget.com. —T. Logan Metesh
Decibullz Percussive Shooting Filters
The initial offering of affordable yet high quality DIY custom molded earplugs by Decibullz has been enhanced with their percussive filters.
The original design works just like regular earplugs. That is, they block harmful sound levels by simply taking up space in your ears. The new percussive filters take it a step further by detecting the peak sound pressure of gunshots and explosions, and suppressing them to safe levels with a noise reduction rating of 31dB.
When a percussive noise is not present, the filters allow you to hear ambient noise, such as a conversation or music, as if you weren’t wearing them at all. What’s really nice is that they don’t require batteries to work. You never have to worry about your batteries going dead on the range, leaving you unable to hear what’s going on around you. —T. DeltaKwik Delta Ring Removal Tool
The AR-15 platform is one of the most versatile on the market today. The modifications and customization that can be done to them is endless. There’s a reason many people refer to them as “adult LEGOs.” Of course, if you’re going to make any modifications, you’re going to need to take things apart. Some are easily done; others, not so much. Working with the delta ring falls within the latter, but fear not – Delta Kwik is here!
Held under extreme pressure, the ring helps hold the barrel in place. It also holds your handguard in place. In order to switch out the handguard on your AR, you need to release it from the delta ring. This has been the bane of beginner gunsmiths and AR-tinkerers for decades. It’s hard to do on your own, so there are a variety of wrenches on the market to help give you some leverage. Still, it takes some time and some finessing.
The Delta Kwik eliminates that frustration, making removal of the existing handguard and replacement with the one of your choice an absolute breeze.
Here’s how it works:
- Insert the Delta Kwik into the magwell for leverage
- Turn the crank until it stops, as this action compresses the ring
- Pop out your existing handguard
- Insert the new one of your choice
- Turn the crank in the opposite direction
- Hit the mag release and remove the Delta Kwik
That’s it. If it sounds super simple, that’s because it is. Don’t believe me? Watch the inventor, Dubby Carr, demonstrate it in the video above.
And no, it doesn’t look that effortless simply because he’s done it thousands of times. I tried it at the booth and had the handguard off in under 10 seconds! If you’ve ever struggled to remove a handguard before, you’re going to want this tool. I’ll be ordering one ASAP. For more info, visit www.deltakwik.com. —T. Logan Metesh
Fix It Sticks Portable Gun Tools
Keeping your guns in proper working order is essential. That means you’ll likely acquire a wide assortment of tools to help you do so. Having space for all the stuff you need to work on your firearms at home is one thing, but it can pose a big problem when you’re trying to figure out what tools you’ll put in your range bag. After all, any space occupied by tools means less space to haul more guns and ammo!
Fix It Sticks, one of the NEXT exhibitors at the 2019 SHOT Show, is here to help remedy that problem. They make high quality field maintenance kits, including miniature torque limiters for tightening down scope rings, mounts, action screws, etc., AR15 specific cleaning components, Glock tools, and general firearms maintenance.
Each of the Fix It Sticks systems is small, lightweight, and portable, making it the perfect companion for your trip to the range. Even though the kits are small, they’re very robust. Their products aren’t even close to the kits you grab off the shelf at the local big box sporting goods store.
Fix It Sticks aren’t designed to replace a complete workbench. Their kits aim to provide you with the essential items you may need to get your guns back in working order while in the field or at the range.
MSRP for the zip-up kits starts at $100. For more info, visit www.fixitsticks.com. —T. Logan Metesh
I’ve been using Flitz’s paste wax to clean and polish metal surfaces since my Boy Scout days. Now, they’ve released a product designed to prolong that shine and protect a whole host of surfaces.
Flitz’ Sealant is designed to protect surfaces better than wax, without leaving a residue behind or giving the item a waxy feeling. The product forms a hydrophobic (water-displacing) “ceramic shell” over whatever it’s sprayed on, protecting the item for up to nine months. Originally designed as protection for high-end automotive paint jobs, Flitz Sealant is safe for almost any surface, including synthetic stocks.
Also of note from Flitz is their Tactical Matte Finish Cleaner, which removes carbon, oil, grease, water spots, soil, unwanted wax residue, and fingerprints. Despite the cleaning power, Tactical Matte Finish Cleaner is safe on flat or matte finishes, and won’t impart any sheen or shine—it actually restores unwanted shiny surfaces back to matte. It won’t affect bluing, parkerized finishes, or brushed or polished stainless steel, so you can use it on just about any firearm you own.
The Smithsonian trusts Flitz’ products, so they’re good enough for me. Prices start around $5 and go up from there, with containers ranging from single use to industrial sizes. —Joseph Albanese
Hyskore Shooting Rests
One of the most valuable pieces of range gear that you can have is a proper rest. They make sighting in and testing for accuracy much easier than trying to do it freehand. Hyskore makes a dozen rifle rests alone, but let’s take a look at just a couple that can really come in handy.
Track and Elevate
The ability to have two applications for one rest is a nice feature to have. If you’re going to invest the money in a quality product, then it’s definitely helpful if you can kill two birds with one stone.
The Track and Elevate shooting rest gives you the ability to make rapid, seamless changes in elevation and also pivot the rest to track moving targets or engage multiple targets. These features make it incredibly useful for shooting prairie dogs and varmints. It also features an elevation lock up and a preset that make it perfect for range and bench top shooting. You’ll want to be sure and use it for that purpose first before you take it out and put it through its paces while you’re hunting!
The elevation adjustment is accomplished by pulling or pushing on a lever that raises and lowers the forward end of the gun. Tracking targets left to right is accomplished by backing off the elevation and leveling jacks and engaging the center front pivot so that it contacts the bench top. The rest is now supported by the forward pivot and the two ball bearing rollers at the rear, allowing the rest to pivot side to side. Between the elevation and tracking adjustments, rapid, precise target acquisition is easily accomplished.
Cleaning and Sighting
Once again, it’s nice to kill two birds with one stone, and the Cleaning and Sighting shooting rest does that, too.
This rest mechanically and optically aligns points of impact and aim. Once you’re all dialed in, it’s time to head home and clean your gun. Conveniently, this product doubles as a cleaning vise. It can adjust to accommodate any gun length or elevation, making it easy to clean on any desk, table, or counter that you have available. The plastic utility tray is a great spot to stash a bottle of Hoppe’s gun solvent, some oil, and even some patches and/or tools. For more info, visit www.hyskore.com. —T. Logan Metesh
Kali-Key Bolt-Action AR Charging Handle
Lawful AR-15 ownership is at risk, especially in states like California. The Kali-Key converts any mil-spec, gas operated (does not work with piston systems), AR-15 into a straight-pull bolt-action rifle. No removal of the gas system, no milling, and no custom modifications are necessary. Simply replace the factory gas key and charging handle on any mil-spec bolt carrier group with the Kali Key, and your AR will operate as a bolt-action rifle, no longer falling under the California definition of an “assault weapon.”
How can that be? The charging handle becomes a part of the bolt carrier group by way of removing the gas key from the bolt carrier and installing the Kali-Key instead of it.
After each round is fired, simply pull the charging handle back to eject the spent round and load the next one into the chamber. The AR is now considered a bolt-action under the definitions of California law.
Is it a bit inconvenient to have to do this? Sure, but this modification allows California AR owners to retain the use of their pistol grips, forward vertical grips, flash hiders, and collapsible/folding stocks. The bullet button can also be removed, once again allowing quick magazine changes.
Are you a fan of the AR-10? They’ve got a Kali-Key for that larger platform as well. MSRP for the AR-15 version is $82.95 and the AR-10 version is $93.95. For more info, visit www.jlbillet.com. —T. Logan Metesh
Otis Lead Remover Hand Wipes
Historians speculate it was the lead in the pipes that supplied drinking water that contributed to Rome’s downfall. Otis hopes to prevent you from suffering a similar fate with their Lead Remover Hand Wipes.
A trip to the range can leave your hands covered in lead particulates. A quick swab down with these Lead Remover Hand Wipes can remove all that residue, leaving you clean enough to venture out in polite society—all without requiring access to soap and water.
The Otis Lead Remover Hand Wipes are available in a 40-count tub or individually wrapped to easily slip in your range bag, for $11 and $2, respectively. —Joseph Albanese
Pin Pusher Tool
Sometimes, it’s the simplest of items that make things infinitely easier. Necessity and convenience are the reason for many inventions. Someone recognizes an item/action that needs help and comes up with an idea that makes people say, “why didn’t I think of that?” Pin Pusher is one of those items.
Taking apart the 1911 platform can be tricky for some people. Not everyone can do it blindfolded with ease – or without the blindfold, for that matter! The Pin Pusher slips on your finger, letting you use both hands to pull back the slide and easily release the pin with your finger to tear down your gun for cleaning without scratching it. No more idiot marks!
Two interchangeable tip are included. One is a flat tip for protruding pins and the other is a rounded tip for flush or countersunk pins. Made of stainless steel, the Pin Pusher is designed to last, giving you a lifetime of 1911 disassembly without difficulty. Priced right, with an MSRP of just $19, it’s hard to go wrong. There are literally hundreds of gun lubricants to choose from. Trying to pick the right one from the shelves at your local gun shop can be overwhelming.
Many products on the market do a great job of lubricating your gun, but they also leave the surfaces slick, attracting dust, lint, and other debris. PrOlix is a non petroleum-based solvent/lubricant that has goes on wet to clean and eliminate oil and grease, then safely bonds with the surfaces and turns into a dry lube coating that provides waterproof protection and is environmentally friendly.
It is safe to use on all of your guns and accessories, whether its blued steel, new or old nickel, Cerakote, polymer, wood, or anything else.
MSRP is $9.99 for 4 ounces and goes up to $27.99 for 16 ounces. For more info, visit www.prolixlubricant.com. —T. Logan Metesh

A sling can be an invaluable piece of equipment, providing you with stability and security when you need it.
There’s been a lot of interest in one-point slings and there are a variety to choose from. What they all have in common, however, is how they attach and can be used. Slingstock went in an entirely different direction.
As the name implies, the Slingstock combines a sling and a stock. Simply remove your existing AR buttstock and put the Slingstock in its place on the buffer tube. In that regard, it performs just like any other adjustable buttstock.
The retractable sling is where it all changes. Using a concept similar to the technology used in your car’s seatbelt, the sling is easily pulled out of the stock for rapid deployment. Simply slip the sling over your body and hit the button to retract it to the proper length for your needs. When you’re done, simply take it off, hit the button, and retract it.
If you’d prefer a two-point setup, the Slingstock can do that, too. Once you deploy the sling, use the integral unit to attach it to a forward piece of Picatinny rail. Once attached, hit the button again and retract any unnecessary length, providing you with an infinitely adjustable sling. For more information, visit www.wmdguns.com —T. Logan Metesh
Swagger Bipods and Sticks
Every shooter, from the beginner to the seasoned expert, knows that a steady shooting platform is vital to putting your shots on target. As such, there are a bunch of options available in the bipod and shooting stick category, but Swagger stands out from the rest of them. As their name implies, their product has swagger.
That is, it moves with you to fit the shooting position you need. Most traditional bipods have legs that deploy and can be adjusted independently to different lengths. This is good, but it is also limiting.
Swagger recognizes that sometimes you need to move to make the shot in the field. That’s why their bipod legs are mounted on high quality springs that allow you to pivot as needed while still maintaining a solid footing.
A bipod is useless if you can’t easily attach it to your gun. That’s why Swagger has created a quick detach mount for the Stalker QD bipod. With just the push of a button, you can attach and detach their bipods from a section of picatinny rail.
Don’t have any rail? No problem. Swagger has a rail adapter for shotguns (I’m looking at you, turkey hunters!) and for a traditional forward sling swivel. It also works well when attached to a crossbow!
The Stalker Lite is perfect for those situations where you want to use a pair of shooting sticks, but don’t want to be weighed down by heavy or cumbersome equipment.
Weighing less than a pound, the Stalker Lite folds down onto itself. With just a quick motion, the segments deploy and lock into place. The Flex Ready Technology then lets you move your gun within the rest without having to reposition the feet of the stick. It gives you the benefit of their bipod mobility but without having to attach it to your gun. —T. Logan Metesh

The package includes a recharging dock, USB cable, wall adapter and carrying case. Allen Thermoblock MSR-Height Filled Shooting Bag
In 2018, Allen introduced a series of shooting bags featuring heat- and fire-resistant Nomex that can withstand the intense heat that barrels can produce during extended range sessions. For 2019, they created a taller bag to better support modern sporting rifles.
The Nomex panel on the Allen Thermoblock MSR-Height Filled Shooting Bag can withstand temperatures up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can fling lead with abandon with nary a worry about melting your rest. The Nomex patch is silicone-treated to keep your barrel in place while shooting, and a molded rubber tread on the bottom keeps the bag from skidding. The taller bag is constructed of heavy-duty, cross-woven fabric that is twice as thick as competitors’ models.
The Allen Thermoblock MSR-Height Filled Shooting Bag is available now, for about $30. —Joe Albanese
Caldwell Carbon Bipods
Caldwell is bringing carbon bipods to the masses with a fleet of well-made, affordable models that secure using nearly every popular mounting solution.
Caldwell Accumax Premium Carbon Fiber Bipods are light on weight, but big on features. The quick-deployment carbon fiber legs feature sturdy feet for enhanced stability. Length adjustment is accomplished quickly and quietly, using a twist-lock system. Swivel tension is easily fine-tuned and the legs provide up to 180 degrees of angle adjustment. Two sizes, 6-9 inches or 9-13 inches, provide the ideal height for common shooting scenarios, and even the largest models weigh under 10 ounces.
There are models that attach using sling swivel studs, M-Lok slots, Picatinny rails, and KeyMod slots so there’s one for everything from the latest tactical rifle to granddad’s deer gun. You can snag these starting at $100, proving that quality doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. —Joe Albanese
BOG Death Grip Tripods
BOG has introduced a line of tripods that perform well beyond anything at their price point. Both models feature a patented clamp that locks your firearm into place, leaving your hands free to glass or call.
The BOG Death Grip is designed with hunting in mind, so instead of a noisy click-detent system to level the legs, a series of anodized aluminum locking pins adjust to provide the ideal angle for standing, kneeling and prone shooting positions. Your firearm locks into place rapidly using the quick-adjust clamping lever, and a non-marring rubber insert protects the gun’s finish. You can cant the head backwards or forwards 25 degrees, and rotate it 360 degrees to get on targets fast. For purchase in any terrain, the legs feature retractable steel that store safely for transport.
The Death Grip series is available in both aluminum and carbon for when weight is at a premium. Both should be in retailers by March, and expect to pay around $150 for the aluminum model and $300 for carbon. —Joe Albanese
