To celebrate the U.S. Army’s adoption of the P320 handgun as the M17/18, SIG Sauer has released a limited run Commemorative Edition available to civilians.

“The U.S. Army’s selection of the M17 earned the Sig Sauer P320 a place in history. It’s regarded as one of the world’s most influential firearms as it enters service with America’s Armed Forces across the globe,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Sig Sauer, Inc. told The Outdoor Wire.

Sig will release 5,000 of the M17-Commemorative pistol, which will be identical to the one the Army approved for the modular handgun system (MHS), using identical components, coatings, and markings, according to The Outdoor Wire.

Speaking of markings, each is serialized M17-0001 through M17-5000—which includes the Army’s required unique identifier (UID). Even the packaging is identical to what is shipped to our troops.

“The M17 is the culmination of SIG Sauer’s steadfast commitment to providing the military with the very best, and our determination to never settle. We are excited that collectors and civilians have an opportunity to participate in this history,” Taylor said to the The Outdoor Wire.

Just like the service pistols, the striker-fired 9mm has a coyote-tan PVD-coating over the stainless steel surfaces. The controls feature the same hue, just like the original pistols sent to the 101st Airborne. For low light shooting, the pistol is outfitted with a SIGLITE front night sight and removable Night Sight rear plate. A manual safety and a coyote-tan carry-length grip module round out the package. The gun ships with two 21-round magazines and one 17-round magazine.

Those fortunate enough to get their hands on one of the M17-Commemorative editions will also receive a challenge coin and certificate of authenticity, with matching serial numbers, when they register the pistol with SIG.

Those interested in upping the value of the collectable can purchase a separate Collector’s Case, perfect for wall hanging. The solid cherry box features a tempered glass top and a laser-cut flocked foam insert with cavities for the pistol and its accessories.
