Springfield Armory Introduces XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm
This new pistol was designed around the 9mm cartridge and has a width under an inch, making it ideal for concealed carry.
Springfield Armory aims to build off the reputation of its most popular pistol, in its most popular caliber, by introducing the XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm.
According to a release on The Outdoor Wire, development of the 9mm XD-S Mod.2 was similar to that of the XD-S Mod.2 in .45 ACP released earlier this year. It survived the same 25,000-round torture test as its predecessors without a hiccup, so you know can count on it.
The new 9mm XD-S Mod.2 was designed around the smaller round; as a result, the frame is less than an inch wide. The smaller size makes concealing the pistol even easier.
Springfield says it added a number of features to increase the gun’s utility in an everyday carry role. For improved low-light performance, an AmeriGlo Pro-Glo tritium front sight is included. The rear site has been upgraded to a serrated tactical-rack model, adding the ability to pull the slide back one-handed by pressing it against any number of surfaces, if necessary. A model with a fiber optic front and white dot tactical-rack serrated rear sight is also available.
The frame of the XD-S Mod.2 positions the shooter’s grip closer to the bore axis for better recoil management and increased accuracy. Dual captive recoil springs and a full-length guide rod help reduce recoil in the little gun. Enhanced texturing provides a secure yet comfortable grip, wet or dry and an enhanced short reset trigger makes for fast, controllable follow up shots.
The new, longer Posi-Wedge slide serrations make the slide easier to grab and operate, while the tactile loaded chamber indicator means you don’t even need to look at the gun or do a brass check to know what condition it’s in.
The grip safety has been redesigned as well and an additional safety is provided in the striker block, which stops the pistol from going off if dropped.
The release says the pistol hits dealer’s shelves complete with a 7-round mag with a pinkie rest, an additional mag with a flush floorplate for carry, and one 9-round extended magazine, both built from stainless steel. Springfield also offers an 8-round mag, for those interested.
The fiber optic front sight version of the XD-S Mod.2 9mm is also available with an integrated Veridian red laser sight.
