Thunder Ranch and Aero Precision Pair for New AR Rifle Line
Details are scarce, but we know the ARs will be available with 16” and 14.5” barrels.
If anyone knows the importance of quality in a product you’re going to bet your life on, its Thunder Ranch founder Clint Smith. If any rifle company knows the importance of superior engineering and machining, it’s Aero Precision.
At SHOT Show 2020, Thunder Ranch announced their collaboration with Aero Precision for a new line of AR-15 rifles. Since this is a brand new announcement, details aren’t copious, but here’s what we know based on the guns on display in the Aero Precision booth.
The rifles will feature the Thunder Ranch name on the side of the receiver and the TR shield logo on the upper underneath the charging handle. The magwell is skeletonized for easy access to the bolt in case of a malfunction—something we’ve seen on other rifles favored by Clint.
Uppers will be available in two configurations: a standard 16” and a 14.5” barrel with a pinned and welded muzzle device to meet legal length requirements.
The rifles will be made in both black and tan color schemes and Aero Precision plans to offer complete rifles, complete uppers, complete lowers, stripped uppers, stripped lowers, and stripped upper and lower receiver sets. Basically, any way you want to build it—or not build it, Aero Precision and Thunder Ranch have got you covered.
Completed uppers have an MSRP of $619 and completed lowers have an MSRP of $379. Prices for other configurations will be released as they get closer to shipping in the next couple months.
